Monkey Gangsters

Well, probably you ever heard about the word “gangster” which usually refers to the person who behaves violent or criminal activities in order to threaten people surrounding.

Right now, we have another group of gangsters acting by a group of three monkeys on their territory, Wat Phnom, where people usually go for relaxing, entertaining and praying for their life or living and it is also an interesting religious and cultural attraction place in the City with its long history.

Lately, the three gangsters (or bongthom) out of 200 monkeys had started their commitment to bit tourists, tear up the internet lines surrounding, and annoy people living nearby their camp. Police is now trying to arrest them for accusing by the law ….Sic!!!!!!! The police have put $250 for arresting them. The police try to catch unruly monkeys by using eggs laced with sleeping medicines, but seem they are smarter than the policemen. Let’s see what it will be in the next stage …

History of WAT PHNOM
The story goes that Lady Penh discovered four Buddha statues in a koki tree floating on the Mekong river. In 1372 she built a hill and a placed a shrine on top of this to house the precious artefacts. In 1434, King Ponhea Yat came and constructed the city which he gave the name Phnom Penh. The shrine has been rebuilt many times, each new reconstruction more beautiful than the previous one.

There is an altar for Yeay Penh ("grandmother Penh") between the stupa and the Vihear. People from Phnom Penh consider her as a powerful protective spirit of the town and they will offer for her and request her help for any major decisions.

The large stupa contains the remains of King Ponhea Yat (1405-1476) and his royal family. Inside the stupa, there is a Buddha statue from the Angkorean period.

Wat Phnom ("Mountain Pagoda") is the heart of the city. At 27 metres above sea level, it is the highest point in the area. The huge clock, illuminated at night, on the base of the hill at the southern side, has become one of Phnom Penh's night-time landmarks.

KFC to be available in Cambodia

Other than BB World and Pizza Company, Cambodian people in three main cities, particularly Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, will be served with another international fast food service. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) will be operated by a Malaysian company named QSR Brands Bhd (55%) with its joint ventures, Royal Group of Companies Ltd - RGC (35%) and Rightlink Corporation Limited Hong Kong - RCL (10%) with an initial total investment of $3 million. The KFC will start wit its 4 outlets in the Capital City within this year and expected to grow with 2 stores annually.

This is an another interesting business plan beside the latest project announced by Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) of Thailand announced their SKY TRAIN System construction. These show the potential of Cambodian open-market for foreign investors to start their business by introducing Western style custom to this old traditional-cultural country. Plus, these will create more chances in career improvement and employment challenges as well as job opportunities for Cambodian people.

Hopefully, we all would get more progresses and benefits from these actions !!!!

New Challenge in the Capital City with Sky Train Project

The Development of Capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, is going to move a step forwards while there will have an interesting investment in the heart of the big crowded city that only very few people in the country have known what the sky train is. Bangkok Mass Transit System company (BTS) will make their investment about 500 million USD to construct a new transportation system in the sky, called SKY TRAIN. The new transportation system will serve within two routes, one from Preah Monivong Bridge to Chroy Changvar Bridge by passing along Preah Monivong Blvd and another route is going to be from Central market (PHSAR THMEY) to Olympic market by passing Preah Monireth Blvd [ Ta Motodub will lose some parts of his job and income and circulation by boat from Oreusey market to Olympic market would be stopped as soon as the completion of the new sky train system... Sic!!!!!!!!!!!! ]. This project will offer a challenging 500 employments and other business opportunities. The price of the transportation is expect to be paid from 0.80 UDSc to 1.00 USD per one way for each ticket. Another new power plant project would also be started to provide electricity for this sky train system as well as for the City if required. The projects are expected to start in 2008 and finish within 3 years.
